VIDEO: DETAILED! We Get A Closer Look At The Acura TLX Type S — Is THIS The Acura We've Been Waiting For?
Over the past handful of years, we've been critical of Acura. And it's not because we have beef with the marque.

We just know it is capable of SO much more. We'd love to see the brand restore what it was known for in the 1990s: Making great products that are compelling over the competition.

Perhaps the Genesis G70 has given Acura a reason to take itself more seriously. That's because it is resurrecting the Type S variant.

When I showed the Spies the press release, it was clear that many folks are digging what Acura has done here. BUT, you have to keep in mind: It is only a concept. In other words, it will get distilled from concept to production.

Having said that, I was wondering: Is THIS the Acura we've been waiting for this WHOLE time? Something with attitude and "juice?"

What say you, Spies? Get a closer look via the video below.

If "Precision Crafted Performance" is part of your mission statement, you'd better have something in the line up to back that up. Welcome back the Type S from Acura. Just a concept now, Acura promises that performance products, starting with the second-get TLX, are coming. Based on how this thing looks, we can't wait.

How will it drive?

If this is the concept, how dumbed down will its looks be for production? This isn't exactly "out there" stylistically and it is already bordering on dull and generic. Once again the TLX will be a Mercury version of the Accord.

I suspect the dash-to-axle ratio will not survive into production. Another hint is that this is the S version with 21 inch wheels. A non-sport version and 18 inch wheels will be vanilla.

The prototype does not have these proportions.

Hopefully Acura will listen to the extremely positive feedback of almost everyone and keep the production version of the Type-S as close to the concept as possible. The non-Type-S will look fine per the leaked images, but the aggressive shoulders of the Type S need to stay. The A-Spec cars look pretty decent, which means the Type S has to step up that much more, so I'm remaining hopeful the production Type S will look pretty good.

As far as driving, if the Type R is any indication, the Type S will smash it, esp. with SH_AWD. Honda/Acura knows it can't screw this up.

I remember the TLS "concept" when I first saw it. It was aggressive and attractive. Then the production version hit the dealer every sporting and interesting detail stripped out. It seemed like a vanilla Camry competitor. The Accord was more compelling. I hope they do not make the same mistake.

Agreed. The proportions of the production TLX (current) were adjusted enough from the concept that it went from a really attractively styled car to a homely squarish one.

Hoping it will a little faster the base C8 Corvette since it is a Acura Spec S model!

Very nice looking... If they make this I'll be walking into a Acuta/Honda showroom again..
