Boreham Motorworks has revealed the first production-ready example of its new Ford Escort Mk1 RS continuation model at the London Concours on Tuesday.
The vehicle, officially licensed by Ford Motor Company, marks the first all-new road-going Ford Escort Mk1 RS to be publicly shown in more than 50 years. It is the latest continuation project from the British manufacturer, which operates under the DRVN Automotive Group and specialises in modern interpretations of historic Ford performance icons.
Limited to just 150 examples worldwide, the new Escort Mk1 RS blends faithful period styling with contemporary engineering. The bodywork closely follows original Mk1 RS design cues, including flared wheel arches, a ducktail spoiler, and characteristic round headlights. Every panel is newly manufactured using original Ford blueprints, ensuring authenticity while meeting modern production standards.
Power comes from a bespoke naturally aspirated inline-four engine developed specifically for the programme. Displacing approximately 2.1 litres (described as the “Boreham TEN-K”), the unit produces 330 PS (approximately 325-330 bhp) and is capable of revving to 10,000 rpm. The lightweight powerplant sits in a chassis weighing just 895 kg, promising exceptional performance and a direct, analogue driving experience.
The car is fully road-legal in Europe and the United States. Pricing is expected to start from around £295,000 (plus taxes), positioning it as a high-end collector’s vehicle rather than a mass-market offering.
Boreham Motorworks has emphasised that the Escort Mk1 RS is a true continuation model, not a restomod built on an original chassis. It carries forward the spirit of the legendary 1970s rally machines while incorporating modern reliability and safety considerations. Design Director Wayne Burgess has described the project as the pinnacle of “Peak Analogue” driving — raw mechanical connection without electronic driver aids.
This debut follows Boreham’s earlier success with models such as the Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition, which was named 2025 IHMA Car of the Year. The Mk1 RS forms part of a broader licensing agreement with Ford that also includes plans for other historic icons, including the RS200.
