Electric cars occupied 62.9% of the retail sales market share in China in May 2026, despite the phasing out of subsidies. The new high was reached due to a sharp decline in ICE sales, which resulted in new energy cars occupying the top 10 bestselling models.
According to the data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), 1.51 million cars were sold in China in May 2026. It is a 22.1% decrease Year-Over-Year and a 9.2% increase Month-On-Month. The total retail sales from January to May reached 7.099 million units, down 19.5% Y-O-Y.
