A bizarre 911 prototype was caught by the carparazzi during the NLS 6 weekend. Although it wears GT3 body panels, the rear-engined bruiser sent waves of confusion through the paddock because it's not a GT3 in practice. Instead, the German automaker's motorsport division is working on a Cayman GT4 Clubsport successor that is expected to be called 911 GT4 Challenge.

   

This development bridges the gap left by the discontinuation of the internal combustion 718 series, which is coming back with both internal combustion and electric options in the near future. In the meantime, the Neunelfer's platform is stepping down a rung on the racecar hierarchy to preserve the German automaker's entry-level customer racing program.
