Under Geely’s umbrella since 2017, Lotus has been on a quest of reinvention for almost a decade, with its Chinese parent company opting to transform it into an all-electric sports car maker by 2030.
Not only that, but Geely also wanted Lotus to grow into a real Porsche rival, investing lots of money to seriously expand the British carmaker’s lineup. Between 2022 and 2024, Lotus launched the limited-edition Evija electric hypercar, codenamed Type 130, the Eletre (Type 132) electric Hyper SUV, and the battery-powered Emeya (Type 133), which is a Porsche Taycan rival. The V6-powered Emira (Type 131), launched in 2022, was originally supposed to be the last Lotus to be powered by an internal combustion engine.
