GM has filed a patent application for a vehicle system that automatically exchanges driver information after a crash. The GM patent application is tagged with patent number US 12,657,968 B2 and was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on November 7th, 2024. The filing was published on June 16th 2026, and lists four Canadian engineers as the inventors, including Mohammad Naserian, Daniel Xie, Patrick Giancarlo Gabriel DiGioacchino, and Utkarsh Saini.
The GM patent application describes a vehicle-to-vehicle communication system designed to make the aftermath of a crash safer, faster, and less stressful for drivers. Rather than requiring motorists to get out of their vehicles, find paperwork, and manually exchange insurance information on the side of the road, the system proposed in the GM patent would allow two vehicles involved in a collision to automatically identify each other and share relevant information.
