The current electric pickups failed to impress customers, mostly due to high prices, so the focus moved to the entry-level segment. Both Slate Auto and Ford are racing to launch their affordable electric pickups, with leaks and teases from both sides dueling for your attention. However, it's unclear whether the market still has an appetite for an electric pickup, no matter the price.
The electric pickup truck looked like a marvelous idea when it was first considered. Take one of the best-selling vehicle form factors in America and make it electric, and it would surely be a hit. Rivian was the first to market with the R1T, and it gained wide recognition for building a very compelling electric pickup. However, it didn't sell very much, mostly due to external factors that crippled Rivian's production line and supply chains.
