Chinese premium brand Denza (a BYD sister company) has launched the Z, a radical all-electric grand tourer that packs a staggering 1,583bhp from a tri-motor powertrain — one motor up front and two at the rear — plus 1,240Nm of torque. Positioned as China’s answer to the Porsche 911, Mercedes-AMG GT and Maserati GranTurismo, it promises to embarrass established rivals with hypercar-shaming performance in a usable four-seat package. The standard Coupe blasts from 0-62mph in 2.25 seconds and reaches 186mph. The track-focused Racing version, fitted with optional semi-slick tyres, improves this to a blistering 1.96 seconds and a 217mph top speed. A limited special-edition model with over 2,000bhp dips under 1.7 seconds. All variants use a 76kWh battery for up to 254 miles of range, backed by groundbreaking 1,500kW “Flash Charging” that can add 10-97% in just nine minutes. Advanced aerodynamics generate up to 1,060kg of downforce, while DiSus-M magnetorheological damping, air suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes keep the car planted.
Styled by legendary designer Wolfgang Egger (ex-Lamborghini, Audi, Alfa Romeo), the Z features a low, cab-forward silhouette with an innovative S-Duct that channels air through the nose for extra downforce. It will be offered in three forms: sleek hard-top Coupe (£142,900), open-top Spider (£159,900) and hardcore Racing model (£172,900) that can swap rear seats for a roll cage.Inside, drivers get an 8.8-inch digital cluster, 12.8-inch touchscreen with Google services and a premium Devialet “theatre-grade” sound system that adds virtual engine noise. Boot space is a practical 250 litres (131-176 litres in the Spider).Tuned specifically for European roads and tracks, the Denza Z makes its public debut at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, with UK sales starting later this year as the brand opens its first dealerships. With twice the power of a 911 Turbo S at a lower price, this power-mad EV signals a serious new challenger in the high-performance segment.
