Volkswagen has moved from the famous "the roof is on fire" line to the point where the whole house is now burning. The German carmaker is considering a radical overhaul of its operations as it struggles to compete with fast-growing Chinese companies. The plan involves cutting the model lineup in half and reducing manufacturing capacity, which sources indicated would cost around 100,000 jobs by 2035.

  

Volkswagen Group has been delaying an overhaul of its operations for too long, and is now looking into the abyss as Chinese carmakers are eating into its market share across Europe, South America, and Asia. Volkswagen has been in dire need of a new strategy to slash costs ever since Herbert Diess was sacked for wanting to cut 50,000 jobs in 2022.
