The second-largest American automaker after General Motors is recalling a bunch of vehicles for roof rail covers that may loosen over time. All told, no fewer than 288,314 such vehicles were sold in the United States market for the 2016 through 2019 model years.

Production dates range from September 19, 2014, through March 3, 2019. The previous-gen Explorer hailed from the Chicago Assembly Plant in the state of Illinois. The Blue Oval's oldest continuously operated automobile manufacturing plant started operations in the 1920s with the Model T as an alternative site to the River Rouge facility in Michigan.
