Range Rover just dropped the most desperate flex in automotive history: the all-electric Range Rover GT. Yes, the brand that made its name conquering mud, rocks, and royal estates has now gone full Prius. Behold the future—wrapped in enough smug eco-luxury to make a Tesla owner blush.

First, it’s built on their fancy new EMA platform. Translation: “We took everything that made Range Rovers feel like indestructible British tanks and replaced it with battery weight and marketing buzzwords.” This is the fifth SUV in the Range Rover family, which is impressive until you remember they’re now just churning out electric variations like Netflix seasons. At this rate, the sixth one will probably be a crossover minivan for influencers who need somewhere to charge their ring lights.

The interior is where the real comedy gold lives. They’ve ditched the traditional instrument cluster for a single-screen dashboard and a sad little driver display. Reduced visual clutter, they brag. Translation: your eyes now have nothing to do except stare at one giant iPad while the car quietly judges your life choices. There’s a full-width concealed air vent because nothing says “sanctuary of calm” like pretending air conditioning is too vulgar to show its face. The dashboard is wrapped in woven textile material—because leather was apparently too 2024. Now your luxury SUV feels like it’s upholstered in an expensive picnic blanket.

Range Rover calls it “the most car-like Range Rover ever created.” Bold claim for a vehicle whose entire identity used to be “not a car.” They spent years “obsessively working on the fundamentals of the GT formula, reinterpreted in a sophisticated, uniquely Range Rover way.” Translation: they made it quieter, smoother, and about as exciting as a first-class flight where the champagne is room temperature.

Yes, it still claims all-terrain capability. Sure, Jan. Nothing screams “ready for the Rubicon Trail” like 5,000 pounds of silent battery pack that’ll strand you the moment the trail gets interesting and your range drops to 12%. Prototypes are undergoing final on-road testing, probably because taking them off-road would expose how quickly the “sanctuary of calm” turns into a very expensive paperweight.

The Range Rover GT wants to redefine grand-touring. What it actually redefines is the moment a legendary off-roader officially became a luxury appliance for people who think “adventure” means driving from their gated community to Whole Foods without waking the kids. Beautiful proportions? Sure. Engaging poise? If by engaging you mean “feels exactly like every other electric SUV with extra badge snobbery.”Congratulations, Range Rover. You built the vehicle nobody asked for but everyone will pretend to want on Instagram. Just don’t forget the charging adapter for your mid-life crisis.
