A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the southernmost island of Japan this morning, leaving a significant number of persons injured or presumed dead and causing important damages to various infrastructures.

The Island of Kyushu, where the quake happened, is an automaking hub, with Toyota and Nissan operating factories in the northern part of the island.

Fortunately for both automakers and their workers, it seems their facilities, located about 150 kilometers north of the epicenter, have been spared the worse, with neither Nissan or Toyota reporting significant damage or injuries on their premises.
