The range-topping M350 derivative of the next-generation BMW 3 Series will be significantly more powerful than its M340i predecessor – and it will offer a drift mode for the first time.

Aside from the M3, it will be the only derivative of the 3 Series available with the signature turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, BMW said. It will put out 437bhp and 428lb ft, increases of 50bhp and 30lb ft respectively.

Drive will be sent to all four wheels via the familiar eight-speed automatic gearbox, giving a 0-62mph sprint time of 4.1sec – 0.6sec behind the outgoing M3. It will top out at 155mph.
