President Trump has enforced hefty tariffs on cars imported from China, and there is a push by the US government to ban the cars from the US completely. But that's not stopping one company from bringing them in by the boatload, and there could be more than 5,000 on the road in the US by the end of the year.

 

Not one of them will have a driver behind the wheel, however.

 

That importer is Waymo. The autonomous vehicle tech company has started to move on from (and outgrow) its original fleet of Jaguar I-Pace EVs, and it needed something better suited to the needs of the company's robotaxi goals.
