The automaker that made electric vehicles cool has recently stopped taking orders for the Shanghai-made Model 3 in Canada, and the reason is not collapsing demand for the more aerodynamic brother of the Model Y. Instead, the American manufacturer was forced to pull the plug due to the federal import quota for China-made electric vehicles.
Tesla posted a notice in this regard back on October 12, claiming that high demand for the cheaper Model 3 had exhausted its allocation. Orders should resume in March 2027 as the suits in Ottawa issue more capacity for automakers who source their vehicles from China.
