2004 Range Rover- The best gets better?

Changes for 04

OVERVIEW

THE FIRST LIMITED EDITIONS AND EVEN MORE LUXURY HIGHLIGHT 2004 RANGE ROVER

The first limited edition models of the new Range Rover highlight developments for the 2004 model year along with the availability of new interior colors and a luxury interior seating option.

The new limited edition "Westminster" is finished in an elegant Java Black pearlescent paint that beautifully sets off the massive 20-inch bright alloy wheels. A silver WESTMINSTER badge on the tailgate identifies the vehicle as being one of only 300 to be built in Java Black.

The vehicle's interior embraces elegance and sophistication in a way only Range Rover could - using Grand Black Ebony wood similar to that seen on the finest grand pianos. Supple Jet Black leather and deep cut pile carpeting complete the luxurious appointments.

Both front and rear seats have two-level electric heating. Even the leather wrapped steering wheel can be warmed. The only features in the interior that are not in Jet Black are the headliner and grab handles which are in ivory. The Range Rover Westminster launches two additional features for 2004 - the Rain Sensor windshield wipers that activate automatically when water is detected and an integrated cargo area luggage net.

"The 2004 WESTMINTER Limited Editions are sure to be acquired quickly," said Richard Beattie, executive vice president, marketing and sales, Jaguar Land Rover North America. "All of our special or limited editions have been very well received. We know this one will continue that trend."

NEW STANDARD RANGE ROVER FEATURES FOR 2004

All Range Rovers are designated "HSE" except Westminster LEs. In 2004, there will be two options. Carried over from 2003 is the Heated Accessories Package, which includes:

    • Dual level heated front and rear seats
    • Heated multi-functional leather steering wheel
    • Integrated ski bag

  • New for 2004 is the Luxury Interior Package, which includes:

    • Contour Seats (14-way adjustment for driver with memory)
    • Extended leather on full seat [excluding piping], door pulls, grab handles, center console lid and on upper dashboard
    • Dual level heated front and rear seats
    • Heated multi-functional leather steering wheel
    • Integrated ski bag
Among the 2004 Range Rover's key standard features are:

  • Monocoque body with integrated chassis
  • All-independent suspension with interconnected air springs
  • Advanced five-speed automatic transmission featuring CommandShift control allowing manual up and down sequential shifting, and a two-speed, electronically activated transfer gearbox which has the ability to shift from Low to High and High to Low ratio on the move
  • Torque-sensing Torsen® center differential continuously and automatically changes the torque bias between front and rear axles depending on available traction
  • Extensive use of aluminum body panels and sub chassis for weight reduction
  • Outstanding crash test performance and eight airbag occupant protection
  • Up to 62 cu.ft. of cargo capacity
  • Up to 11 inches of ground clearance
  • Focused product range: one body style and one engine, but with a choice of several elegant interior colors, including two luxury woods and five leathers
  • harman/kardon® LOGIC7 digital surround sound system with six-disc CD changer, hidden audio cassette player and GPS/Navigation system.
The monocoque body with integrated chassis has extremely high levels of torsional rigidity that benefit Range Rover's on- and off-road ability. Advances in high-strength steel and sophisticated computer-aided design processes mean it is now possible to reap the refinement benefits of unitary construction without compromising off-road performance.

The elegant cabin design has won thousands of admirers during the first year of the vehicle's availability. The interior brings new levels of luxury to the class. A wide variety of styling and texture cues-including elegant woods and leathers-were studied from a diverse range of influences including Riva speedboats and high-precision running gear from ocean racing yachts to create this unique environment.

Central to the Range Rover's superb on- and off-road handling and ride is the subframe-mounted fully independent air suspension. The chassis also features a number of electronic traction control systems including Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and the Land Rover-pioneered Hill Descent Control (HDC). Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) supplement the standard anti-lock brakes (ABS).

The all-aluminum, 4.4-liter V8 engine is free-revving thanks to its 32-valve, DOHC design. It produces 282 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and generates 325 lbs-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. It can tow up to 7,700 lbs., negotiate the toughest off-road trails or cruise at speeds up to 122 MPH (where allowed). EPA mileage is 12 MPG city, 17 highway.

A state-of-the-art, five-speed ZF transmission provides fully automatic and CommandShift™ manual operation, even in Low range.

The new Range Rover has a comprehensive package of active and passive safety features including eight standard airbags protecting both front and rear passengers in frontal and side collisions.

Color and Trim

Two wood trims continue to be available as part of the 2004 model year. American Cherry or Burled Walnut can be ordered with any of the five interior leather/piping color combinations. Two additional exterior colors have been added - Alveston Red and Maya Gold - bringing total exterior choices to eight. The standard colors are Java Black, Giverny Green, Zambezi Silver, Chawton White, Adriatic Blue and Epsom Green.

The 2004 model has an MSRP of $71,585, an increase of $385 over the 2003 model plus $665 for destination. The price includes Roadside Assistance and complimentary scheduled maintenance during the 4-year/50,000 miles warranty period.

The MSRP for the Luxury Interior package is $5000, which includes the Heated Accessories package, which retails separately at $1,300.

The new Range Rover set several sales records during it first year of availability and garnered a number of awards from automotive enthusiast publications and motoring journalist associations.
