The UK’s Ariel Motor Co. has created a new joint-venture with a Chinese company to build its famous Atom street-racer in China for local sale. Under the deal, a new company called Quingdao Ariel Automotive will be formed in China and will oversee the production of the Atom models at a new plant in the eastern city of Quingdao.

The venture has already received 200 firm orders and the first cars are scheduled to roll off the production line at the end of this year, reports Pistonheads. The cars will be identical to the versions made back home in the UK, which means they’ll feature a range of engine options including supercharged GM and Honda engines with around 300hp (224kW) and 340Nm (250lb-ft) of torque on tap.
