The Lexus brand has been sitting on top of the US luxury brand market since 2000 and it seemed that it would stay that way for more years to come, but that has recently changed. Although it hit high ratings in both the dependability and satisfaction polls, the Japanese brand of Toyota has given up its position to BMW after the German manufacturer beat it by a small margin of about 5,500 units for the first five months of this year.

The last time that BMW was a top-selling brad was way back in 1997. Lexus has seen a huge drop in sales this year, about 37.2 percent compared to BMW’s 30.5 percent. BMW claims that dependability and enduring quality have been the reasons why they became number 1 in sales during the early part of this year with the 3-series, 5-series and X5 range making most of the sales numbers. But, lest we forget, the year is not yet out and so is the battle for top place. It has been reported that Lexus will be releasing its latest RX SUV and its new HS 250h compact hybrid soon.
