Toyota reaffirmed today its global sales target of 9.34 million vehicles for this year despite worries about plant closures and a sluggish market in Japan.

Toyota Motor Corp., which outpaced General Motors Corp. in global vehicle sales in the first half of the year for the first time ever, set the full-year target late last year. The target is up 6 percent from the 8.8 million vehicles it sold worldwide in 2006.

GM has been the auto industry's top seller worldwide every year for more than seven decades. It has made no forecast for this year's sales.
