Normal type approval is not possible in the case of the 2-Eleven - it is, and will continue to be, manufactured in such small numbers that each car must be separately approved. But without SVA, the 2-Eleven would remain a dedicated track car: with SVA, the 2-Eleven becomes a street-car named Desire.
But it satisfies a particular kind of desire. Masochistic, some might say, as there is no windscreen to speak of, no heaters, and little else in the way of comfort. The car is entirely self-ventilating, so there is no air-con; the sound signature negates the need for a radio; and the boot is full of engine, so there is no luggage space. In fact, the only thing that Lotus has added is lightness. In road-going trim, the 2-Eleven tips the scales at a meagre 745 kilos.
