Ford Motor, General Motors (GM), DaimlerChrysler and Honda Motor have joined forces to train suppliers to avoid buying materials made by slaves.

The training is co-ordinated by the Automotive Industry Action Group, along with Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), a San Francisco-based organisation that promotes good corporate practices.

Toyota Motor chose not to join because it believed it could better resolve forced labour issues on its own, said spokesperson Victor Vanov.
