Tesla promised "more affordable EVs" would launch in the first half of 2025, and many people thought Tesla would expand its lineup with new models. A recent prototype sighting at Tesla Fremont caused an uproar, as the car looked like a smaller Model Y. However, this might not be the new car Tesla fans expect.
 
Although it shied away from the plans to launch a next-generation compact EV alongside the Cybercab, Tesla is still expected to build a more affordable model. As the EV maker informs us with every earnings call, this will no longer use the next-gen platform but will share the Model 3/Y platform. Tesla will integrate some elements of the Gen 3 architecture, but the upcoming model will pretty much use the existing vehicle architecture and production lines.
