The traditional motor show was once a big deal. Before the internet, it was one of the very few places young gearheads could get up close to the cars they had as posters on their walls, and when it came time for the likes of the Detroit, Frankfurt, and Geneva Motor Shows, you just knew the world's automakers would descend to unveil their greatest new creations to steal your heart. But there's no denying it, the traditional auto show format is dead.
Some blame COVID, others blame the internet, but whatever you believe, we'll never walk through a convention center discovering something new the way we once did. Conversely, shows like the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Monterey Car Week are booming, so to gain a little insight into why the traditional motor show died and why FoS and Car Week have taken over, we asked none other than Professor Gordon Murray.
