MG has just launched the IM5 and IM6 in the more premium saloon and SUV sectors, but it hasn’t forgotten the importance of affordable EVs, and the new MG2 is still on the way.

Speaking to Auto Express, MG’s Head of Product and Planning, David Allison, confirmed the MG2 “is still 12 months away”, suggesting we will see the car revealed before the end of 2026 ahead of a market launch the following year.

We got our first hint of a new entry-level MG EV in March last year when Allison confirmed there would be an all-electric sibling to the MG3. “I think everyone seems to be looking in that area at the moment – B-segment or just below it, around four metres in length, with that magic 20,000-Euro price bracket,” Allison said. “If anyone’s going to do that, we should be right there. There’s an absolute window of opportunity around £20,000. It’s a combination of range, size and price – and if you hit all those three, you’ll nail it.”
