Replacing the Optima in Kia's lineup, the K5 has been hit with a safety recall concerning a little over 100,000 examples of the breed. The affected population was produced for model years 2023 through 2025 from October 3, 2022 through July 24, 2024.

Citing a supplier quality issue, Kia America highlights in the recall documentation that C-pillar garnish face plates may delaminate. This would result in loose trim pieces, with said looseness eventually leading to complete detachment while driving. In the eyes of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, creating a road hazard for other road users is a big no-no.
