Electric vehicles again proved a tough nut to crack for car thieves, with Tesla EVs ranking among the least stolen cars in the US in the latest IIHS-HLDI report. While Hyundai and Kia have cracked down on car theft, another vehicle has raced to the top of the most-stolen vehicles: the Chevrolet Camaro.

Car theft has been steadily on the rise for the past years, but one trend has been consistent: thieves avoid electric vehicles like the plague. While nobody bothered to ask them why, we can only speculate that it has to be an objective reason other than "range is small, charging takes too long, battery bad."

Electric vehicles are usually filled to the brim with connectivity and tracking systems, making stealing and keeping them more difficult. They are also more likely to be parked in a garage or near buildings to facilitate charging, making them less attractive to thieves. This makes EVs more than 85% less likely to be stolen than their gas-powered brethren.
