Ford is recalling a small number of Explorer and Lincoln Aviator sport utility vehicles over insufficiently torqued trailer hitch assembly bolts. The manufacturing line operator may not have fully completed the fastening process.

To date, Ford has identified three potentially related warranty reports alleging insufficiently torqued trailer hitch assembly bolts. The Chicago assembly plant started looking into this matter on August 7, 2025, after the safety boffins identified two warranty claims involving Explorer vehicles.

Given the nature of the recall condition, the trailer may detach while driving. Affected owners and lessees will be notified by mail to take their vehicles to Ford or Lincoln dealers for the remedy, which starts with an inspection of the suspect bolts. If required, the trailer hitch bolts will be either torqued to specification or replaced with brand-new units.
