"Oh, yeah, it's got a lot of power!" Jay Leno says surprised from the driver's seat. He didn't expect the "cute" BMW 2002 to rocket like that. However, there is an E36 M3-sourced inline-six that replaced the original engine, tuned up to produce a staggering 600 horsepower on E85 fuel. Pretty "cute," isn't it?

When it came out in 1968, the BMW 2002 checked all the right boxes. It had the BMW-typical build quality and maneuverability, it was light and compact, and it packed the M10 2.0-liter inline-four that turned it into a pocket rocket, especially when it came with the Turbo suffix attached to its name.

Introduced for the 1973 model year, it came with the Kuhnle, Kopp und Kausch (KKK) turbocharger and Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection for a total of 168 horsepower (170 metric horsepower) and 177 pound-feet (240 Newton meters) of torque for a run from 0 to 60 between 6.8 and 7.3 seconds, depending on the spec, and a top speed of 131 mph (211 mph).
