Hyundai unveiled the Boulder Concept at the 2026 New York International Auto Show on April 1, marking a bold step into the American off-road segment. This rugged design study previews the brand’s first body-on-frame vehicle developed specifically for the U.S. market.

Built on a stout ladder-frame chassis with aggressive approach, departure, and breakover angles, the Boulder Concept emphasizes serious trail capability. It rides on massive 37-inch mud-terrain tires wrapped around rugged wheels, promising exceptional off-road agility for adventurous drivers.

Distinctive styling includes a versatile double-hinged tailgate that opens from either side, safari-style windows for panoramic views, and an upright, muscular stance that signals durability. Designed, developed, and set for assembly in America using U.S. steel, the concept hints at Hyundai’s commitment to building tough, locally produced vehicles.

While powertrain details remain undisclosed for now, the Boulder serves as a clear design exploration toward a future midsize body-on-frame pickup and potential SUV, with a production truck eyed for 2029. It celebrates freedom of adventure in an era when off-road SUVs and trucks dominate consumer demand.

Hyundai’s move positions the Korean automaker to challenge established players like Toyota’s 4Runner and Ford’s Bronco with American-made toughness. The Boulder Concept signals exciting things ahead for enthusiasts seeking capable, no-nonsense exploration machines.
