A bird flying over the third turn of Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday morning made a poor career decision. So did, depending on who you ask, the driver who hit it.
Romain Grosjean’s No. 18 Honda was on a 230-mph lap during the first day of Indy 500 open testing when it intersected with the bird near the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, which sits inside the track.
The collision left blood, feathers, and debris on his suit, helmet, and aeroscreen, briefly impairing his vision.
