The Ford Mustang is by default a rear-wheel drive. That is basically the definition of the muscle car, as long as a V8 is involved, no matter how Dodge calls its electric Charger. But if Chevrolet did it with the Corvette, a rear-wheel drive by nature and tradition, why can’t Ford do the same with the Mustang?
 
Every single generation of the Ford Mustang has been rear-wheel drive since the model’s debut back in 1964. However, there was a time, back in the late 1980s, when Ford heavily considered releasing a front-wheel-drive Mustang in the late 1980s and even worked on a prototype, but soon scrapped the project in order to maintain the car's traditional sports/muscle car characteristics.
