The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released its complete safety evaluation for the 2026 model year X1, namely the smallest BMW sport utility vehicle that money can buy in the United States of America. The entry-level crossover put on an impressive display, earning the most coveted IIHS accolade, yet the data also reveals two areas where improvements are needed.
        
In the small overlap front evaluation, which simulates a vehicle's front corner striking another vehicle, the X1 secured a flawless "good" rating across both the passenger- and driver-side tests. In both scenarios, crash test dummy injury measures to the head, neck, chest, thighs, and legs were exceptionally low.
