Acura has long thought of bringing a full-size SUV to North America, and rumors show that this might indeed happen by the end of the decade. The carmaker has recently scrapped its EV plans, and its North American lineup is in dire need of new models, especially after the RDX has been put on the chopping block. The so-called "Acura XL," a three-row flagship SUV, should start production in September 2029.
Acura recently scrapped its future EV models as part of a broader corporate strategy it shares with Honda. With the ZDX gone and the subcompact RDX also on the chopping board, Acura dealers are anxiously looking at the shrinking lineup, which will soon comprise only three models. The RDX is set for a comeback in 2028, but Acura still needs some bestsellers in its lineup to keep the North American operations afloat.
