The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released its evaluation for the 2026 Audi A3 sedan, and there is a bit of bad news in there. While the German model posted top marks in front crash protection and crash prevention systems, the nonprofit organization's testing revealed notable structural and occupant protection concerns in the side impact test, alongside subpar performance for the seatbelt reminders and headlights.
    
In frontal crashworthiness evaluations, the 2026 model year A3 for the United States market demonstrated exceptional safety cell integrity and restraint control across both the small and moderate overlap tests. The small overlap front crash test assesses safety performance when 25 percent of the vehicle's front width strikes a rigid barrier.
