The Audi A6 was the first model that escaped the company’s latest renaming fiasco, and thus the RS 6 model will continue to carry over the same moniker as before. Audi first came up with the stupid idea of a new renaming back in 2023 when they decided to switch the A4 to become A5 and A6 to A7, keeping the even numbers only for the electric e-tron models.
 
Then, in early 2025, the atrocious idea was shelved, though not before the new A4 became the A5 and the Audi RS 5 turned into a sedan and Avant station wagon instead of remaining a Sportback, coupe, and Cabriolet. Anyway, immediately afterward, the sixth-generation A6 was officially unveiled in March 2025, complete with Avant and sedan models.
