Auto maker inventories tighten slightly coming into March of this year, down from an 80 day supply in February to a 68 day average entering March .

Maintaining a tight inventory ensures an even flow of through the dealership network and avoids costly discounts to relieve an excess of inventory. On the flip side too tight of an inventory will result in shortages at the dealerships and potential lost sales to other makes.

The premium/luxury makes ranged from Lexus with a very low dealer inventory of 25 days to Jaguar with a high of 115 days worth of inventory sitting on the lot.
