To fill the void left by the planned departure of the long-running Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV, GM is finishing the final touches for a brand new crossover model based on the existing Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave (pictured) line of cars. The new Chevy model will be the fourth such variation of the popular platform and is likely to be named the Traverse.

Chevrolet is GM’s most popular line but was overlooked when developing the original trio of crossovers because of fears it would compete with the TrailBlazer. According to The Detroit News, GM will cease selling the ‘Blazer by 2010 and that we could see Chevy’s new crossover enter production as early as next year.

Last month, execs struck a deal with UAW workers to produce the new crossover at its plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
