When I see these sketches (from their design studios) of the current generation Audi A8, I couldn't help but see a little bit of the Chrysler 300c in these drawings.

Especially, how the early drawings show a more slab-sided profile.

The A8 is an amazingly well made car and is, from a quality standpoint, better than anything available in its competitive class.

The only criticism of the car has been that it looks 'too conservative'.

And we'd agree with that.

It's not UN-attractive, it just doesn't stand out as forward thinking enough, in an extremely competitive segment.

With the success of the 300c, I wonder if the Audi designers are 'pissed' at management for not giving them more creative leeway with its design.

Yes, it's selling better than the last one but what kind of bragging point is that?

If they ever REALLY want to win in this segment, they need to do what Lexus did in 1989.

They need to get OUT FRONT with the design and surpass the competition in features and price points.

How about the next A8 with the front end and lines of the Lemans concept?

That would be killer!
