Mercedes Car Group: Production of C-Class Running at Full Capacity in Germany

• Record figure for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars: More than 1.5 million units manufactured since production launch

• C-Class series now in its fifth year and still going strong

• Global market leadership in the comparative segment for the first time ever

Production of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is in full swing, requiring full utilization of the capacities at DaimlerChrysler’s Bremen and Sindelfingen plants. More than 1.5 million C-Class vehicles have been manufactured since production was launched in spring 2000.

Because of the car’s continued market success, the sedan, station wagon and sports coupe models are all posting record production figures. Never before have so many units of a particular Mercedes-Benz series been manufactured in this amount of time.

DaimlerChrysler presented the new generation of the C-Class at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2004. The sedan, station wagon and sports coupe models have all been carefully revised to set new standards, especially for dynamic handling, comfort and top-class details.

“The new generation of the C-Class particularly strikes a chord with younger customers,” says Prof. Jürgen Hubbert, DaimlerChrysler Board of Management member responsible for the Mercedes Car Group. “By creating a substantially more dynamic, attractive overall package of even higher quality, we have kept the C-Class successful into its fifth year.”

Sales of the production series have increased significantly since the new generation of the C-Class was introduced. In August, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class not only took the lead in its global market segment for the first time, it also posted the highest registration figures in Germany’s mid-range car segment. Around 25,300 customers worldwide bought a C-Class vehicle in August, up four percent on the figure for the same month last year. During the first eight months of 2004, DaimlerChrysler sold about 215,000 C-Class cars around the world.
