With all the hype swirling around about hybrids we decided to take a closer look and find out if it is just all hype.

The answer is yes and no.

I recently bought a 2005 Honda Accord hybrid to review and here were my findings...

1. The best mileage I could get was 27 MPG, no matter what I did.

2. At stops and starts it felt like I was driving a golf cart. Harsh throttle response taking off and slowing down. It drove me nuts!

3. The accord itself is a very well done car with lot's of interior room.

4. I keep asking myself why a stereo on an accord sounds better than most german luxury cars.

5. The front wheel drive made the front end feel very heavy and numb.

So the bottom line is the Accord hybrid is good, not great.

Now to my pick for the most underated car...

When I read the european mags I'm always fascinated by their praise for the current generation of diesels. I always wish I could buy one to try it to see if it lives up to the hype.

Well, now you and I can.

It's the 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-class CDI.

And it's one heck of a car!

The E-class was just rated the safest car in the insurance institutes crash testing.

We expect nothing less from MB.

I picked mine up back east and drove cross country testing it out last week.

What were my findings?
