As I sit here writing this week's newletter on the 16th floor of my hotel room overlooking Stanley Park in Vancouver, British Columbia, drinking in all its beauty (a long with a couple Kokanee's, the only Glacier Beer and my favorite Canadian brew), I can't help but daydream about all the gorgeous cars I've seen over the past week.

Especially in Monterey, at the Concorso Italiano.

Wait until you see the 2005 Concorso Italiano photos!

There are some BEAUTIFUL pieces of machinery!

If you've never been, it's the best Ferrari/Italian car show on earth.

They even have an area called the corral for other brands like BMW, Porsche, MB, classic, etc.

History of Concorso Italiano

"A celebration of Italian style," Concorso Italiano embraces all cultural elements of Italian style, such as music, cuisine, fashion and travel tourism.

Concorso Italiano has celebrated Italian automobiles and style at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course since 2003. In 2004, Concorso saw world-record turnouts of Ferraris and other Italian marques, and looks forward to its 20th Anniversary celebration in 2005!

1998 proved to be a special Concorso Italiano, with all of the elements of years past and adding to it, a spectacular Italian Opera performance by Carmelo Corrado Caruso and Claudia Nicole Bandera.

Concorso Italiano's format continues to unfold, each year adding new elements to the day's program. In 1997 we added our version of Via Montenapoleone, named after the famous shopping street in Milan.

In 1996, Saks Fifth Avenue put on a 40-minute Italian run-way fashion show. It was well received by all present and we are pleased that it has become an official part of the event's venue.

In 1992, the Ferrari Club of America held its first annual FCA-Pacific Region Vintage Ferrari Concours in conjunction with Concorso Italiano.

In 1991, the tradition of featuring a particular Italian marque (manufacturer) and well known Italian engineers and designers began.

In 1987, MCI invited the Lamborghini Club, then the Iso and Bizzarrini Clubs, and in 1991 the Ferrari Club to join them at Quail Lodge. Finally, the roster expanded to include all Italian automotive and motorcycle marques.

In 1981, Maserati Club International (MCI) held its annual Concorso and Awards Dinner at Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club. It was such a lovely setting that they returned and have reserved the Green ever since.

The Philosophy of Concorso Italiano

Concorso Italiano is a celebration of Italian style, centered around Italy's incredible exotic and classic automobiles and motorcycles. But the event is not just about cars -- it's about people, renewing acquaintances, making new friends and sharing a common interest.

The Concorso emphasizes display and appreciation over competition. It is not an event where judges labor over and under cars looking for minor imperfections. Trophies are awarded in non-judged categories. Judged competitions are frequent within individual marque clubs, but at the sole discretion of each.

Concorso Italiano celebrates Italian style, culture and the personalities behind that "special essence." The ultimate goal of the organizers is to create an atmosphere so rich with Italian culture, you'll be convinced you spent the day in your favorite Italian city.
