Some companies enjoy moderate success in the showrooms despite non-participation on the track--Hyundai and Volkswagen come to mind. For companies like Porsche, Ferrari and even Toyota, a marriage to the grid gives them credibility among enthusiasts and motorheads around the world. Our fascination with cars always seems to gravitate around the brands with racing in their DNA. Other than perhaps World Rally Championship, nowhere is this more evident than Formula 1.
