MINI's wild speedster is go
The MINI Speedster is on the way! Auto Express has learned the Oxford-based firm is close to signing a deal with Italian styling house Bertone to produce the eagerly anticipated two-seater.
It was revealed by Auto Express in issue 830, and prototypes of the car are reportedly being put through final tests. MINI legend John Cooper Garages is said to be helping develop a new 225bhp 1.6-litre engine.
The bodywork and design of the car is to be handled exclusively by Bertone, in liaison with bosses at MINI owner BMW. The plan will see the coachbuilder being sent standard unfinished
bodyshells from MINI's Midlands factory. These will be cut down, modified and stiffened before being completed for delivery and returned to the UK.
