Mercedes 'sports tourers' very versatile
The R-Class and the B-Class are neither minivans nor SUVs

Somewhere along a snowy stretch of highway in Kananaskis Country recently, my driving partner and I are debating the basis for Mercedes' two new siblings, the full-sized R-Class and the "baby Benz," or B-Class.

Both the R- and B-Class put Benz in a position to boast about versatility, practicality and spaciousness -- the buzzwords automakers are pumping up these days. Oh, and, of course, both the R and B come in "stylish" packages.

"There's a close relationship between the R-Class and B-Class," says Andrew le Bret, Mercedes' national sales training manager. "They are close siblings. We've kept them similar yet very different."
