Seems that GM has big plans of new platforms for a new generation of Astra Voltec, Chevrolet Volt or Vauxhall/Opel Ampera, but no sooner than 2014 we will see any version of Vauxhall/Opel Astra built up with the Volt technology.
The officials claim that the company needs to roll out the new Voltec technology for a while to several GM models, before putting it up on a new generation of the GM’s most famous brands. The Voltec technology is supposed to be available on the sixth-generation Astra, which will probably hit the markets in 6 years. The new to come Astra will be nothing like the current one, it will be built on completely different platform and will get an updated engine from the Insignia and Corsa range.
