This is a very good news for blind people. Because with this technology breakthrough, it opens up hope for the blind to be able to drive car! Isn't it wonderful?
A student team from Virginia Tech College of Engineering has developed a dour-wheel dirt buggy loaded with high tech to make the blind driver actually capable of driving. The buggy is fitted with laser to scan the vehicle surroundings, instant voice command to guide the driver to steer, brake and accelerate. The team also installed non-visual interface technologies, such as vibrating vest and click counter steering wheel with audio.
At this point, the technology is not 100% perfected yet. But we can expect it to be finished in the near future. Maybe sooner than you think.
