In March, Infiniti unveiled the Essence concept car at the Geneva auto show. Like most concept cars, the Essence is sleek, sexy and stuffed with especially wistful machinery, including a 592-horsepower 6-cylinder engine and collision avoidance technology.

But Infiniti didn’t ship the Essence to other auto shows, where it would have faced critique from automotive journalists. Instead, the sports coupe traveled to high-end shopping malls and hotels around the country, with stops in New York City, Miami and Atlanta, where the Essence met the common populace.
