General Motors Co. Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre said he does not want to be the CEO long-term and said federal pay restrictions are making the job search difficult.

Speaking to reporters inside the GM boardroom this morning, Whitacre said he is enjoying the CEO job, which he assumed two weeks ago after forcing out Fritz Henderson.

"I'm enjoying it, I'll say that," Whitacre said. "It's a terrific company, great future, great people. Do I want to do it long-term? I told the board no. But I haven't defined that. I can't define that myself."
