Carroll Shelby’s performance-car business will soon change its name from Shelby Automobiles to Shelby American. This is the original banner used by his sports-car business and the historic Le Mans-winning cars in the 1960s.
The name change is being done in honor of the 45th anniversary of two of the company’s most famous cars — the 427 Cobra and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. The company claims that it has only responded to the clamor of the other fans to return the name for years. In a statement, Carol Shelby said that enthusiasts have asked the company to return the Shelby American name.
