With US consumers switching to crossovers, the large station segment in the country has declined. As a result, Volvo is ending US sales of its V70 after the 2010 model year. It’s possible that Volvo will exclude station wagons from its offerings completely within a year.
Meanwhile, BMW of North America will not import the next generation of the 5-Series Touring, which will go on sale elsewhere in May. Doug Speck, CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, said that sales of the station wagons have dropped in the US because buyers are switching to crossovers such as Volvo’s XC60 and XC90.
